It was in the early 1700s when a Dutchman in Holland decided to do ice skating during summer. During those days, ice skates were popularly used in the country in order to travel through the various canals which would become frozen.

The roller skates were first made in Holland by an unknown inventor who wanted to do dry land skating. Thus, he took wooden strips and nailed wooden spools to it. He further attached this wooden strip to his shoes and accomplished dry land skating. In those days, it became popularly known as 'skeelers'.

Thus, gradually dry land roller skates became popular among the skating enthusiasts. But there are safety measures which are a must to be followed in this sport. There are people who can never be careful enough.

As a recreational sport, this form of skating never goes out of fashion. It is popular among not just kids but also the young and adults.

Skaters always want to try out something new and challenging in the sport. And the ultimate challenge for any skater is to skate downhill. And the moment they make up their mind and decide to take up the downhill challenge, there is no stopping them. They do not even bother to think twice that they are not yet prepared for it.
